Aaahhh summertime! How I look forward to you in the winter but when you are here I am looking forward to the cooler weather. There is no happy medium when you live in steamy Florida. It is either Hot or Hotter! Why not make the best of it, right?
I can tolerate the heat just as long as I am warming my skin lounging in one of my favorite spaces, the pool and patio area.
Not only is this our favorite space, our dog Roxie loves to jump in the pool and lounge on the steps to cool off.
When it came to decorating this space anything went. I love mixing different styles to create an eclectic look. Everything in the space is either from Craigslist, a Thrift Store or found at the curb.
I recently completed the "Shutters" and installed them on either side of our French doors. These are actually closet doors that were found at the curb. Some black spray paint and vintage hardware I found at a Thrift Store were all they needed. I can't believe how "almost" perfectly they fit!
The orange pillows were purchased at a Thrift Store but needed something.
You know those really cheap plastic green ornament hangers for your Christmas tree? Yes, that is what you see. I spray painted them black and then snuck in my daughters room and rummaged through her jewelry. I broke off the post and hot glued it to the ornament thingy. I did get busted when she saw the pillows...nothing is off limits when it comes to decorating. :-)
I love how the shutters turned out with the hardware added to them. It really adds some old world charm and makes it seem like they have been there forever.
The daybed was another great find on Craigslist. It turned out that I new the seller's nephew. It was originally listed at $175.00 but was given a $50.00 "friend" discount. What luck! It had a plain canopy top that was not doing it justice so off to the Thrift Store I went and found 6 sheer curtains for $5.00, pillow cases and a twin sheet set for a couple of more dollars. I love how light and airy the curtains are now.
Time to relax. The new Elle Decor magazine is calling my name.
Enjoy!
